Lighthouse Trust, a recognised Centre of Excellence for integrated continuum of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support is a Public Trust operating within Kamuzu and Bwaila Hospitals in Lilongwe, Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and many districts within the central and northern region. Its strategic approach focus on client-centred care based on four goals which are:-

Goal 1: Service delivery: to enhance high-quality, integrated HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services for adults and children

Goal 2: Model interventions and operations research: to develop, pilot, evaluate, and disseminate innovative programs and policies across the continuum of prevention, treatment, care and support for HIV infection and its co-morbidities, both infectious and non-infectious.

Goal 3: Quality management: to ensure that all patients at LH clinics and all supported sites are receiving quality health care and services as recommended the MOH and other health development partners by utilizing quality improvement (QI) methodologies in a multidisciplinary team approach.

Goal 4: Capacity strengthening: to build and strengthen healthcare capacity for high quality HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services

Position Title : Clinic Manager (1) Ref# CM01

Reports to : Medical Director

Department :  Lighthouse KCH Clinic

Purpose of the Position:

The incumbent will join the clinic team to support planning and overseeing the day-to-day clinic operations and care. The Clinic Manager will manage all clinic programmatic activities and provide routine and ad-hoc reporting requests from Executive Management and the donor. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring high quality care at the Lighthouse clinic.

The Clinic Manager overseas operations in the following facilities

  1. Reception
  2. Clinic Review rooms
  3. Short stay ward
  4. KCH Room 5 inpatient care
  5. Pharmacy
  6. Point of Care Laboratory

Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to):

Clinical Care

Provide support and managerial oversight for smooth operations of the clinical services to Lighthouse KCH clients and patients linked through KCH Ward 4A Room 5

Pharmacy

Supervise operations at Pharmacy especially the drug accounting system to monitor use and the ordering system to guarantee minimum stock levels

Reception and Client Flow

  • Evaluate and develop improved client flow at the Lighthouse Centre
  • Supervise record keeping both by Clinicians and at the reception

Strategy

  • Take a leading role in the Lighthouse KCH clinic Team, consolidating the available services and guiding the development of Centre of Excellence
  • Plan the strategic development of Centre with the Directors and Advisors.
  • Take responsibility for formulating, budgeting and implementing activity
  • plans
  • Develop and implement systems for monitoring and evaluating the performance of KCH Lighthouse Centre services in cooperation with the M&E department, with particular emphasis on the quality of service provided to clients
  • Develop and improve existing treatment guidelines and management algorithms with assistance from Medical Director and Advisors including cervical cancer screening, advanced HIV disease care and  interventions focusing on retention

Human Resources

  • Ensure Lighthouse Clinic has appropriate staff with relevant expertise to provide quality care
  • Prepare plans for holidays, training and other leave to ensure that sufficient staff is always available at the Centre
  • Plan and implement the weekly clinic rotation to ensure that sufficient staff is available at the Centre and that envisaged standards of care are met
  • Establish and maintain a system of regular supervision of all Lighthouse KCH Centre clinic staff with the Medical Director and Advisors
  • Ensure that clinic operations follow National guidelines at the highest quality level.
  • Ensure that all members of the team have access and understanding of relevant policy documents

Training

  • Ensure that all Lighthouse KCH clinic staff have appropriate, up to date training. Recommend to management training for clinic team members following the outline of the training matrix but taking into account specific needs of individuals and Annual Performance and Development plans. 
  • Identify providers of suitable training and donors willing to fund training
  • Plan patient education sessions with IEC Officer
  • Plan and supervise training of external clinical staff attached to the Centre in conjunction with the Medical Director and Training Unit

Program Management

  • Oversee all program implementation within the clinic- Autonomously compile clinic reports with input from clinic staff (e.g. monthly clinic reports, biweekly reports for donor)
  • Work in close cooperation with M&E staff in compiling data and reports for internal and external review meetings
  • Follow a Personal Annual Performance and Development Planning process
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required

Supervisory

Supervises all clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, receptionists, Laboratory Technologist, trainees and attachés’

Requirements

  • Minimum of a BSc Degree in Public Health, Health Systems or equivalent
  • Degree or Diploma in Clinical Medicine or Nursing from a recognised Institution
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in HIV and ART patient management at the same level
  • ART certification by Ministry of Health is preferred
  • Registered with Medical Council of Malawi or Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
  • Good Interpersonal skills
  • Strong strategic planning capabilities, the ability to analyze situations and skills to elaborate possible solution strategies (also in writing)
  • Team player with skills in leading and managing a large number of employees by word and example
  • Ability to finalize tasks and documents timely
  • Ability to use data for decision making
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work under pressure
