Lighthouse Trust Response to Cyclone Freddy Aftermath
The Lighthouse Trust would like to extend deepest sympathies to all those affected by Cyclone Freddy. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones or have been impacted in any way by this devas- tating disaster. As a Public Trust mandated to provide a continuum of integrated HIV services, we understand the urgent need for medical assistance during such times of crisis, and we are fully committed to providing the highest level of care to people living with HIV and those at risk for HIV in need.
Our Centers of Excellence in Blantyre and Zomba are prepared to respond to the increased demand for medical services and resources that may arise in the aftermath of this cyclone. Our dedicated medical staff and support teams are already on the ground in the camps providing immediate medical attention to those in need, including ART dispensation.
We are collaborating closely with local emer- gency services, Blantyre and Zomba District Health officials, and other healthcare providers to coordinate our response efforts and provide the best possible care to our recipients of care.
We urge all those who require ART, TB medication, or other integrated-HIV services, but have not yet been assisted, to reach out by calling our toll-free number, 169, or sending a WhatsApp message on +265 986 524 988.
We are also providing Psychological First AID (PFA) or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) sessions via phone to those affected with these traumatic experiences while we arrange to have our psychoso- cial counsellors available physically in the camps.
We urge those requiring ART emergency supply or urgent medical assistance to reach us as soon as possible, and to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety and wellbeing during this difficult time. If there are any recommendations to be made regarding our response, please do not hesitate to contact us.
