- Lighthouse Trust Response to Cyclone Freddy AftermathThe Lighthouse Trust would like to extend deepest sympathies to all those affected by Cyclone Freddy. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones or have been impacted in any way by this devas- tating disaster. As a Public Trust mandated to provide a continuum of integrated HIV services, we understand the urgent need for medical assistance during such times of crisis, and we are fully committed to providing the highest level of care to people living with HIV and those at risk for HIV in need. Our Centers of Excellence in Blantyre and Zomba are prepared to respond to the increased demand for medical services and resources that may arise in the aftermath of this cyclone. Our dedicated medical staff and support teams are already on the ground in the camps providing immediate medical attention to those in need, including ART dispensation. We are collaborating closely with local emer- gency services, Blantyre and Zomba District Health officials, and other healthcare providers to coordinate our response efforts and provide the best possible care to our recipients of care. We urge all those who require ART, TB medication, or other integrated-HIV services, but have not yet been assisted, to reach out by calling our toll-free number, 169, or sending a WhatsApp message on +265 986 524 988. We are also providing Psychological First AID (PFA) or Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) sessions via phone to those affected with these traumatic experiences while we arrange to have our psychoso- cial counsellors available physically in the camps. We urge those requiring ART emergency supply or urgent medical assistance to reach us as soon as possible, and to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety and wellbeing during this difficult time. - Lighthouse Trust Launches New Strategic PlanLilongwe, 24 November 2022—The Lighthouse Trust has developed a new four-year Strategic Plan that was officially launched by the Minister of Health and Population, Hon. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, MP., on Thursday, 24″ November 2022. The goal of this new strategic plan, which will run from 2022 to 2026, is for sustain operations of referral Centers of Excellence for the continu- um of HIV care in all tertiary-level hospitals in Malawi by 2026 and beyond. The new strategic vision for the Lighthouse Trust is to be ‘‘a recognized leader in the provision of innovative, high-quality, and integrated HIV services”, while the mission is “fo continue contributing to Malawi’s national response to HIV by providing a continuum of quality-assured in- tegrated HIV care, developing model interventions and building capacity in the health sector”. The Trust has adopted seven core values that will guide conduct, decision-making and operations as follows: Confidentiality Compassion Collaboration Equity Efficiency Innovation Integrity The plan also commits Lighthouse to the pursuit of three strategic objectives that will focus on: Service delivery: enhancing referral-level service delivery through provision of high-quality, integrated HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services; for children, adolescents, adults, and key populations. Model interventions and operations research: developing model interventions and operations research by piloting, evaluating, and dissemi- nating innovative programs and policies across the continuum of prevention, treatment, care and support for HIV infection and its co- morbidities, both infectious and non-infectious. Capacity Strengthening: strengthening capacity in healthcare for high quality HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support service. The development of the Lighthouse Trust Strategic Plan resulted from broad consultations with internal and external stakeholders, specifically the Ministry of Health, Department of HIV, STIs and Viral Hepatitis to ensure consensus on relevance and prioritization of activities in relation to oper- ations of the Trust. The new strategic vision for Lighthouse has been aligned with the Malawi National strategic plan direction to sustain gains made in the fight against the HIV epidemic and integrated services that will ensure quality care for all population groups.
